One step at a time.... That is what I told myself as I set foot on the running surface of my hometown track this evening. It has been nearly 10 years since I put forth any effort to move myself in a speedy fashion. Ten years since I last stepped foot on that very surface (well sorta, it was black when I last ran and it is now red) trying to win a race at a track meet. Now I run for a different reason. The thrill of competition is long gone and nearly forgotten. The 150 pound frame I had then is hidden deep inside this one of nearly 100 pounds more. Then I was a frail stick figure who had nothing but energy. Now a full grown(well some would say overgrown) man trying to lose some of the fluff and regain at least a semblance of his former self. The journey to the track today was several months in the making sad to say. I have not seen motivation in a long time. I almost forgot what it looked like. At least the road finally led me to get my feet going one foot in front of the other once more. It felt great (well it hurt like hell) to get out there and feel the wind in my face as I circled the track one lap after the other. It felt great to know I had finally, after 10 long years, made myself run. Now to see if tomorrow will bring me to another trip around the red circle. One step at a time is all I can do for now.
